we won't always have london

the idea of leaving london is looming over me. our living room is piling up with boxes and i am wrestling with what i'll need for the next 6 weeks while our worldly possessions are in transit. i think out of everything i can least bear to part with my puter. this whole virtual realm is as real to me as walking down the street to go to the store. luckily i'll have access to my fella's portable palace of time suck, so i'll be able to check the same blogs 18 times a day indefinatly. if all goes well we should send off the boxes next tuesday or wednesday and then start fixing all the havoc we've visited upon our dwelling. we'll be over a week without kitchen impliments or bedding, which is maybe not exactly roughing it, but it should involve lots of experimentation with local take-outs. action! adventure! high speed sprints to the bathroom!

we will also be taking taco and fernandez back to the shelter. it breaks my heart to abandon my little buddies. they have gone from being terrified of our every movement to realizing that if they manipulate us with endless cuteness we'll feed them better food than usual. the lady at the shelter felt the trip would be too stressful for such sensitive kitties, so it can't be helped. if you need two beautiful black cats who are gentle, spayed, neutered, microchipped, shot up with all kinds of vacinations, quiet and good with kids, let me know. i can maybe pull some strings.

today we went window shopping around central london. no matter what i may hate about london it is without a doubt one of the foremost places to spend money. it helps that all the prices are inflated by a magical just-because-it's-london tax, but it doesn't end there. all the goods and products of the world converge here; the mecca of people with more money than brains. if it's luxurious, fabulous and overpriced, you'll find it here. i hope when i leave here i will stop wishing i could trade my already meagre supply of little gray cells for a more liquid currency for the sake of this season's vivienne westwood.

we also managed to go to the ica to see surprise surprise which maybe would have been better called "go fish", "keep guessing" or "just walk around with our head in the catalog to the point that you spend so much time trying to figure out who did what that you don't really see the show at all".  it revolved around the premise of showing atypical works by famous artists. most of the work i felt was still in keeping with the artists i was familiar with. a switch in materials is a weak display of irregular work. it wasn't a bad show. i'm just getting cranky about not being able to see london art. i love seeing it, taking pictures of it, talking about it and writing about it. it's going to be hard to not get all nostalgic about it the second we hit gatwick.

now i'm going to go have a big smoothie, throw some more things into boxes and take the pictures of the wall. and of course it's not the end. it's the beginging. another fucking beautiful begining.

I can't believe you are leaving too. I think it is the right decision. I wish you all the best with the packing and the move. Of course you are closer to me now so that is brilliant! Auntie Sandra would be happy to baby sit while you come to NY.

Also can you send me elina's email, as I would love to drop her a line to say hi!
